Heavenly Cloth Incontinence Pads

Heavenly Cloth Incontinence Pads are made with certified organic hemp fleece that is soft, absorbent and will mold to your contours. Hemp fleece feels similar to sweatshirt cotton fleece except that it is denser and softer. Hemp is durable, super absorbent and will outlast most fabrics. I have made Heavenly Cloth Menstrual Pads since July of 2002 and due to demand for a true incontinence product, am now introducing these pads to our line.
Construction
Our Incontinence pads are similar in design to our menstrual pads with a few significant enhancements. These pads are a holder with a doubler design. Benefits of this design include being able to customize the absorbency of your pad and superior clean up and drying time.
The holder, which is the main part of the pad, consists of two layers of organic hemp fleece for absorbency and is then backed with a waterproof lining and decorative fabric of your choice. .The waterproofing backing serves as the pocket for the holder in which you can insert a doubler or two to boost absorbency. Each doubler is two layers of organic hemp fleece with an inner core of Zorb fabric. Zorb is a polyester/bamboo combination that can absorb up to 10x it's weight in liquid in less than half a second.

Holders are a 15" pad with a significantly large waterproofing layer to completely protect your underwear. Doublers fit inside the holder and are contoured for comfort. Each doubler is approximately 12" long with contour measurements of 5x3x5. This pattern was used formerly in Samuel's Diapering line and was a favorite among our customers for it's size and absorbency.
Pros
-
Comfort -- Our testers previously stuck in Depends "diapers" were able to use our pads and wear their own underwear again.
-
Absorbency -- A fully "conditioned" holder with one doubler can easily handle 8 oz. of liquid.
-
Easy Care -- Wash and dry in your washer and dryer on any setting. Hemp is virtually indestructible.
-
No Rash -- Testers said they had no urine rash when using this product.
-
No Odor -- No chemicals in the cloth means no exaggerated odors when it is saturated.
-
Discreet
-
Significant reduction and/or elimination of paper products -- Our testers were able to virtually eliminate their need for paper products.
-
Better for the Planet
Cons
-
You absolutely have to change when soiled, usually immediately -- A fully saturated pad is like a fully saturated washrag; it can only hold so much. Paper products have chemicals to lock fluid in which cloth does not.
-
You will feel wet when the pad is soiled which leads me back to the above -- change immediately if the pad is saturated and change as soon as possible if it is not to capacity.
Care,Use, Storage and Washing
You may wash and dry your pads in your washer and dryer on any setting.
Before use your pads will need to be conditioned. Like bath towels, cloth products need to be washed and dried several times to reach their full absorbency. Hemp tends to reach it's peak around the 10th washing. We recommend you wash and dry at least three times on hot settings before beginning use. You can test your pads for absorbency by pouring a small amount of liquid on the top of the pad. If the liquid soaks in immediately, the pad is ready for use. If the liquid sits on top of the pad for a few seconds, the pad needs more conditioning.
Cloth pads work best with well-fitting underwear. Simply add a doubler or two as necessary to your holder, wrap around your underwear, snap, and you are set. (You will never notice the snaps when you are wearing the pad).
Our testers put their soiled pads into a container separate from their usual laundry. When they were ready to wash, they ran the pads through a rinse cycle first, then washed like their white loads. Do not use fabric softener as it will coat your pads and interfere with absorbency.
For storage of soiled pads while on the go, our testers found a Zip Lock to be perfect.
How many do you need?
This depends on your daily use and how often you want to wash. Figure out an average number of pads you use per day and the how many days you want to go before washing. So if you use six pads a day and want to wash every couple days, you would need 18 pads. Also the more pads you have in rotation, the longer they will last. I have some Heavenly Cloth Menstrual Pads that are over seven years old and going strong.
Moderate Incontinence vs. Light Incontinence and Post-Partum use
Up to now, we have offered only a 12" pad for light incontinence and post-partum use and found it an extremely effective pad for such uses. For "stress incontinence," or fluid loss less than 5oz at a time and for most post-partum customers, this is a great solution. Our 15" incontinence pad is nearly one-third again larger than our 12" pad. It is both longer and wider as shown below.

Comparing the pads by weight, our 12" pads (holder/insert) average about 2.4oz. and can effectively hold up to 3x their weight in liquid. The 15" pads (holder and one doubler) average 3.6oz.and can effectively hold more than 3x their weight in liquid.
