Why Hemp????

Hemp is a very durable fabric!  In fact, when hemp blend fabric is compared to similar weight cotton fabric, it is THREE TIMES stronger.  Hence, why our pouches wear like iron with very little change in their appearance.  They also resist pilling over time which is a true bonus.    Hemp holds it's shape unlike fabrics of similar weight so comparing our hemp pouches to cotton fleece or sweatshirt fleece is not a good comparison as these fabrics do stretch out over time and wear out. 

hemp does not wear out, it wears in by softening with use, wear and washing.  Hemp is naturally resistant to mold, mildew and ultraviolet rays.  It is dense and porous making it more absorbent that cotton materials of equal weight.  Because of this quality, it takes in and holds dye much better than other fabrics of similar weight. 

Hemp is very breathable, again due to the porous nature of the fabric.  It is cooler in warmer weather than similar cotton fabrics and warmer in cooler weather as it holds heat from your body better.

Hand dyed fabrics

We use Dharma Dyes for all our hand dyed items.  These dyes are the industry standard.  If you wear cotton that is any color but white, it has probably been dyed using these dyes.

The dye manufacturer assures me that the dyed fabrics require no special care after they dye process.  I, personally, would do the first wash of hand dyed items separately or with similar colors because there may be some residual dye left over.  Hemp fabrics take dye really well and tend not to fade or wash out over time.   Use caution with any really red fabrics because reds to tend to bleed regardless of what the manufacturer states.

Wool Care  -

We like wool, but it is too time consuming to offer these diapering  products at the moment.   Wool in our pads is fully washable as it is felted.  No special care required.
